Classic Rods/Reels for Sale to TU Madmen Members Only
We have already raffled off some of the items in our two Chapter meetings. Three newer fly rods, a fly reel, a nice wooden landing net and assorted accessory items have already gone to lucky raffle winners. The remaining wood landing nets and accessory items will be included in our next raffle.
There were a number of more desirable rods and reels donated and we are now offering those more “classic” rods and reels up for sale to the Madmen membership. Sales will be on a first-come/first-served basis. If you’re interested in purchasing any of the items, please contact me directly at rhurni@columbus.rr.com If you want I can send photos of any of the items that may interest you. We can also arrange for you see the items in person.
Prices are for local pick-up only. If you would like a rod and/or reel shipped to you, you would need to pay the actual cost of shipping. Typically, it would cost approximately $25 to ship a 2-pc rod and $10 to ship a reel. Shipping costs would include insurance.
The items that are unsold after January 31, 2020 will then be offered up for sale in the “classifieds” sections on several of the national fly fishing forums.
Rods:
All of the rods are in excellent (near mint) condition unless noted otherwise below. The cork grips on some are soiled slightly and we have not attempted to clean them. All rods include the original cloth rod sock and aluminum tube. The tubes themselves show that Charles definitely used the rods and must have traveled with them. They show signs of wear and there are the occasional dents but they still serve their purpose of protecting the rods.
Sage Model GFL 686RP 8’-6” 6-wt 2-pc graphite. This rod was the first series of rods produced by Sage using their Graphite II technology. Production began in 1982. The RP stands for “Reserve Power”. It’s a medium-fast action rod that some owners still claim is their best casting rod ever. $225.00
Scott G905 9’-0” 5-wt 2-pc graphite, Serial Number 21049. This medium-action rod is one of the original G-Series rods first produced in 1976. This particular rod is dated ‘01 which means that it was made in Scott’s second factory in Berkeley. Scott continued production of this rod until 2006 when it was replaced by the G2-Series. It’s a true “classic” in the world of modern rod technology. $275.00
Scott G1008 PowR-Ply 10’-0” 8-wt 2-pc graphite, Serial Number 16761. Also one of the original G-Series rods, it is dated ’79 which means that it was made in Scott’s original San Francisco factory. There is a slight scratch in the finish of the butt section near the grip. $250.00
Winston IM6 8’-6” 5-wt 2-pc graphite rod, Serial Number 12527. Perhaps the most revered of the rods listed here, the moderate-action IM6 rods are still considered by many Winston aficionados as the smoothest casting Winston rods ever. $350.00
Reels/Spare Spools:
Unlike the rods that were fished but are in pristine condition, the reels and spare spools exhibit varying degrees of “rock rash”. The two exceptions are the Ross Cimarron 3 and Gunnison G-5 reels that appear to be either unfished and/or in mint condition. All are mechanically sound and fully functional. All of the reels include backing and line (and some with leaders). Half of the spare spools include backing and line as well. Some of the lines are of unknown brand, type and line weight. All of the reels are set up for RHW but can be easily converted to LHW.
Ross Reels/Spare Spools:
The Cimarron 2 and C-2 reels (sized for 4 to 6-wt lines) listed below will be paired with one of the spare spools listed below and sold as a combo. Pick one of the reels and one of the spools. $165.00
Cimarron C-2 reel w/ backing, Orvis Wonderline WF5F “Trout” line and neoprene pouch.
Cimarron C-2 reel w/ backing, Cortland “Peach” line of unknown weight and neoprene pouch.
Cimarron 2 reel w/ backing, Cortland 444SL WF4F Rocket Fusee line and neoprene pouch.
Cimarron 2 reel w/ backing, Cortland 444SL WF6F Rocket Fusee line and neoprene pouch.

Cimarron 3 reel (sized for 5 to 7-wt lines) w/ backing, Cortland 444SL WF7F Rocket Fusee line and neoprene pouch. Reel and line appear to be unused. $175

Gunnison 5 reel (sized for 7 to 9-wt lines) w/ backing, unknown line and neoprene pouch. $120
